how to: shadow tracing

Shepherd's Purse with heart shape seed pods, shadow traced VOILA! My walls are loving the art Jed created for 'school at home' today, deceptively simple and loads of fun. Life in covid-lockdown has its upsides. We've been enjoying slowing down and really noticing the beauty in our own backyard.

We experimented with common weeds like dandelions and grasses and then graduated to maple leaves and a nasturtium. They all turned out beautifully, don't you think?

If you'd like to make your own, you'll need something botanical, paper, pencil, watercolours and sunshine. Actually, the sun got too hot for us so we ended up using a reading lamp.

Hold your botanical as still as you can and trace its shadow onto your paper. Then paint if you want to, or leave as is. Either way, it's lovely!
